The development of the Dietary Guidelines includes recommendations that fit the changing lifestyles and interests of the American society. Communities across the country use the Dietary Guidelines to choose nutrient dense and culturally relevant foods.

The work of the Professional community includes education and guidance in identifying the specific calorie and nutrient needs based on age, sex, weight, activity level and any other medical conditions
